Humans have used jewellery since ancient time to decorate themselves, display their wealth, or communicate meaningful symbols, and the reasons are much the same in our modern times.
However, the meaningful symbols on jewellery have been taken over by brand logos, replacing the stamps of pre-modern artisans. People do still wear bracelets to show what is important to them, for example, with symbolic gemstones, medical ID tags, prayer beads, or even Star Wars-themed charm bracelets!
We have some tips to help you find your next bracelet.
Consider your wrist size
If you don’t know whether to go bold and chunky, or slim and delicate, you might need to think about what type of bracelet will look best against the backdrop of your arm, wrist, and hand.
Aside from the bracelet fitting around your wrist, the width of the band, the size of the beads and embellishments, and the apparent weight of the bracelet all matter too. You need to choose a bracelet that compliments your appearance, which makes it important to consider your bone structure.
A woman with delicate wrists might want to try a bold or chunky bracelet instead of a narrow single strand as the latter would make her wrists look even smaller. A man with smaller wrists might want to consider the opposite, as something more minimal would complement his feature, while a wide bracelet may overwhelm his frame.
How to determine your wrist size
Wrap your thumb and index finger around the opposite wrist. If you can touch your thumb and forefinger together with extra space, you’re small-boned; if they just touch, you’re medium-boned; and if they don’t quite meet, you’re large-boned.
Also, consider the bones on the outside of your wrists, are they prominent or barely noticeable? And do you have long slender fingers, or short and sausage-like? If you can determine this, it will help you find a bracelet that compliments you.
