Every pair of Sarah Valley gemstone earrings is made entirely by hand in our London, UK Studio, using a wire crochet technique, using ethically sourced natural gemstones and hypoallergenic Egyptian cotton thread. We work with 35-plus natural gemstones, including amethyst, turquoise, moonstone, garnet, sapphire, ruby, opal, peridot, aquamarine, and citrine, setting each stone individually into fine crocheted wire so no two pairs are ever identical.

It is highly resistant to corrosion and tarnishing, does not contain nickel as a free element, and is one of the most widely recommended metals for sensitive ears. If you have previously had reactions to costume jewellery or lower-quality metals, stainless steel is a reliable starting point.
Sterling silver hooks are available across the full collection. We use 925 sterling silver, meaning 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. Sterling silver has a cooler, brighter finish than stainless steel and suits cooler-toned gemstones such as aquamarine, moonstone, and sapphire particularly well. Some people with a nickel sensitivity may find that high-quality 925 sterling silver is comfortable, though this varies by individual.
Gold hooks are available on request across the collection. If you would like a gold hook with any earring, simply add a note at checkout or contact us before ordering. Gold has a warm finish that complements warmer-toned stones such as citrine, garnet, ruby, and opal. It is also the most hypoallergenic metal option available for earrings and is recommended for the most sensitive ears.

Clean your earrings with a soft cloth and warm water. Avoid soaking, ultrasonic cleaners, and chemical jewellery dips. Remove earrings before swimming, showering, or applying cosmetics. Store in a dry, soft pouch or jewellery box, keeping gemstone earrings separated from other pieces. Some softer stones, such as opal and turquoise, benefit from extra care in storage. Full care instructions are included with every order.
Keep them in a box you received from Sarah Valley, along with your earrings or pouch, away from other jewellery. Gemstones can scratch each other if they knock together. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or damp areas like bathrooms long-term.
Real gemstones feel cold to the touch initially and warm slowly. Glass and plastic warm up immediately. Natural stones also have small inclusions and irregularities. If every stone looks completely perfect and identical, it is likely synthetic or glass. If you are ever unsure about a piece you have bought elsewhere, a local jeweller can test it quickly.
We recommend not doing it. Water and soap won’t ruin the stone, but repeated exposure can loosen wire-work over time and can dull the surface of softer stones. Take them off before showering, and they will last much longer.
It depends on the stone. Harder stones like sapphire, ruby, and topaz handle daily wear well. Softer stones like opal, amber, and pearl need more care and are better kept for occasions rather than every day.
